Alkaline Trio - This Addiction

I thought I would start with one of my Favourite bands' new records as my first entry, and it was one of the last records to hit my Post Office Box.

There was a lot of talk from the band that this record would be a return to the stylings of Goddamnit, as they were putting the record out themselves, on their new label and wanted it to be more of a punk record.

I am not sure that I agree with the sentiment, but some of the songs do have riffs very similar to Goddamnit, but no where near as raw. I mean, come on, Goddamnit cost $900 to record, where as I am sure This Addiction cost a shitload more than a measly $900.

All that aside, I do really like the record. It's poppy, catchy and some of the riffs are classic Alk3.

The vocals in the Chorus of Lead Poisoning are pure fucking genius, but then the horns come in and it sounds like NOFX song. I guess that's the epitome of hit and miss...

Still, as a whole, I like it better than their last effort.

The other thing that bummed me out on this record was the Packaging. The artwork is good, albeit similar to Give Up The Ghosts "We're down..." LP, but the actual physical packaging is really pretty average.

The Gatefold sleeve is so thick, that creasing is almost guaranteed on this one. Mine is split at the top of the outer sleeve already.

Then, the Gatefold is really pointless, It's just a group shot, that they used as single shots on the insert anyways.

And to top it all off, the insert is a printed inner sleeve, which is really thin and flimsy, and mine came split at 2 sides already.

So for a record I was super siked for, it was a bit of a let down.

Mine also has a skip on Track 3, Side A, but to send it back to the US to prove it, will cost me just as much as it will to buy a new copy...

As I said, it;s a good record, just a bit of a let down over all, but moreso due to the actually packaging, than the music.

As far as I know this one was only pressed on black, but I don't know the numbers, and haven't been able to find anything out there about numbers.
